Fellows Action Network

The Fellows Action Network connects Fellows who have the common experience of the Friday Fellowship with each other and to other statewide and community leaders. Members of the Fellows Action Network leverage resources from each other, generate innovative ideas to improve North Carolina, and act collaboratively when appropriate. The change they seek is driven by the Fellows themselves, individually and collaboratively; WLI's role is to help leaders collaborate and deepen the practices of leadership used in civic change initiatives. To fulfill the promise of the Fellows Action Network, WLI is investing resources in increasing the knowledge of what’s available and encouraging greater interactions between Fellows and other leaders.

Fellows Biographies

Friday Fellows in the network are leaders who impact the legal industry, social services, philanthropy, the business arena, the academy, the legislature, school systems and health care systems daily. The fellows comprise a group of diverse and vibrant citizens who serve in a multitude of civic and volunteer capacities, putting them in contact and positions of influence with the rich texture of people across the state. Within these venues, the Fellows access the skills, language and perspectives that are conductive to exploring the ways in which bridges can be built across deep differences. Annual Fellows’ Gathering and Regional Gatherings

As the Fellows Action Network grows it is increasingly important for Fellows to meet other across Fellowship groups to continue their learning experience and create new and renew old connections. To achieve this we hold an annual statewide gathering every Spring at Wildacres Retreat in Little Switzerland. This gathering includes Fellows families in order to broaden our reach to partners, friends, children and other family members.

In addition to this weekend, WLI sponsors smaller regional meetings so that Fellows may gather in their common communities to support each other and keep conversations going about local and statewide efforts. These typically happen at the homes of Fellows or some central meeting place and last just a few hours. Gatherings, either at statewide or regional level, offer opportunities to connect, determine the most pressing human relations issues needing Fellows' collective attention and continue to envision and build integral, intentional and inclusive leadership for the future of North Carolina.

7th Seminar Series

7th Seminar Series is an annual offering of a menu of interactive sessions, group outings and information sharing venues that allow Fellows to: learn about the current features of the Friday Fellowship Program; share and educate one another about their personal, professional and civic work; and learn about issues important to the state of North Carolina. A priority of the Fellows Action Network is to create learning opportunities for Fellows from all classes that continue long beyond the initial two-year Fellowship. 7th Seminars introduce reinforce existing skills and understanding in the core competencies of effective leadership as well as introduce new concepts and skills being continually developed through the ongoing Fellowship cycles.

Rural Tours (Coming Soon!)

As Fellows live and lead across the state, it is important that they develop a sense of North Carolina whole. WLI will hold a series of Rural Tours in which Fellows may participate in a 2 to 3 day immersion experience in one of several rural areas of our state. In this experience, Fellows will come to understand the geography and natural resources, the leadership culture, the economic realities, the cultural traditions and more that makes each region unique as well as connected to the rest of the state.
