Center for Excellence in Leadership

Center for Excellence in Leadership promotes the value of the principles and practices of leading with integrity, intention, and inclusion through products and services such as a speakers’ bureau and leadership curriculum, publications, and articles distributed to the media. In time, WLI will host an Annual Leadership Caucus so leaders across the state can dialogue about the practical application of leading with integrity, intention, and inclusion. The proceedings of this annual caucus as well as other leadership lessons from the field will be distributed in an annual journal published by WLI.

The WLI Fellows’ Writers Guild

WLI is establishing a credible voice on leadership with a statewide audience through building relationships with newspapers, journals and other venues to share our model and Fellows’ thoughts on leadership. One example is our partnership with the Philanthropy Journal that publishes opinion pieces written by WLI Fellows on a monthly basis. The pieces focus on some aspect of leadership through the WLI lens with integrity, intention and inclusion. Philanthropy Journal’s readership covers the state of North Carolina and extends beyond its borders, and it has a goal of helping people understand and work together in the non-profit and philanthropic worlds. As such, a part of its practice is to focus on issues of leadership. Click here to read recent articles by our Fellows in the Philanthropy Journal.

Collaboration with The Women’s Health Fellowship

The Women’s Health Fellowship is housed in the Southern Regional Health Area Education Center (SR-AHEC) in Fayetteville. Friday Fellow Lenny Salzberg, MD (95-97) is the Executive Director of SR-AHEC and brought WLI in to coach the chosen physician on leadership competencies of communication and conflict management, negotiating difference and adaptive leadership. Health fellowships are typically strong on medical training but less so on skills around leading organizations and people, influencing patients and catalyzing change. Through one-on-one coaching and development of a supplemental training plan, WLI is able to add leadership training to this important Fellowship program.
